Customers to celebrate with Ann Copley as she retires from Mecca Bingo after 38 years

Ann Copley has worked at Mecca Exeter for 38 years and will be retiring next week…but in all that time, the one thing she’s never done is call the numbers in a game of bingo!

That will all change this Saturday evening, September 27th, when the Mecca Bingo Club on North Street, Exeter will be holding a special evening to wish Ann good luck and to say their farewells. Customers have been asked to come along and help the team create a party atmosphere to give Ann the send- off she deserves…and watch her call a special game for charity.

Ann has seen many changes since she came to work at the North Street Bingo Club, formerly known as The Top Rank Social Club, and which she remembers well. Ann has worked for six different Managers and has seen many delighted customers winning large sums of money throughout the years. Bingo was very different 38 years ago compared to how it is today, with numbers being called by a mechanical Bingo Blower instead of the modern computerised way.

Ann has worked on all departments over the years, from selling Bingo Books to working in the catering department and will end her career as a highly respected member of the Team as the Office Controller, looking after the personnel department and staff wages.

But the one job that Ann has never undertaken in all the years is calling the Bingo numbers! She’ll finally complete her career by calling the numbers for a charity game on Saturday evening, as part of a plan to give her the send-off she deserves. The team at Mecca Exeter have organised a fantastic evening of fun for both Ann and the customers to enjoy. The Evening has been called ‘Cop’ the Lot, a play on Ann’s surname and will have lots of fun happenings to enable customers to sit back and enjoy the events of the evening, as well as play Bingo.

The first Bingo game (the early flyer) will be played at 6pm and customers will greeted by ‘cops and robbers’ offering bubbly on arrival. A staff show has been organised and rehearsed by the staff and will take place at 6.45pm, and a buffet will be included in the price of the evening, which will cost only £20 for all of bingo, food, some bubbly and entertainment.

There will also be a game played throughout the Main Bingo Session resulting in two customers’ ‘Copping’ a Lot of money. There will be at least two guaranteed £500 prizes to be won for calling a Full House during the Bingo and £1000 to be won on the last Full House of the Main Session.
